CEMENTITIOUS WATERPROOFING SYSTEM

SPECIAL PROPERTIES
  • Waterproofs cellars and basements permanently ·
  • Resists hydrostatic pressure up to 5 metres head
  • Stops active water leaks and penetrating damp
  • Can be applied to saturated surfaces
  • Suitable for brick, stone, block, concrete, etc.
  • Easy brush application
  • Having passed the Water Reserch Council test of effect on water quality, HYDROSEAL is suitable for use in contact with potable water.

DESCRIPTION

HYDROSEAL is application cementitious compound designed for application to the internal surfaces of walls and the associated solid floors of cellars, basements and similar areas below ground level and subject to penetrating dampness. The HYDROSEAL System prevents ingress of liquid water and works by forming application physical and chemical bond with a structure, providing a monolithic waterproof membrane which still allows the structure to breathe. HYDROPLUG is a cementitious quick - setting compound which is mixed with water and applied as application putty. It can be used to provide anchor sites for wall fixing and to stop active water leaks.

APPLICATIONS

Immediately prior to application of HYDROSEAl the walls to be treated should be thoroughly cleaned and thoroughly wetted with clean water. All surface water must be removed.

HYDROSEAL powder should be mixed with clean water (not chilled) to a brushable slurry paste (6/7 litres water; 25 kg HYDROSEAL powder).

HYDROSEAL should be applied using the HYDROSEAL application brush in a smooth flowing action. Overbrushing should be avoided and the brush rinsed in clean water frequently to prevent clogging.

Two coats of HYDROSEAL should be applied at a minimum thickness of approximately 1.5 mm per coat (3 kg/sq.m). The second application of HYDROSEAL may take place as soon as the initial application has dried sufficiently to provide a firm base ( approximately 12-24 hours).

For large areas, HYDROSEAL may be sprayed applied. For advice on application equipment consult the cementone division. The HYDROSEAL should be made to a slightly thicker consistency and applied as two even coats as normal. It is essential than that the rate of application is carefully monitored using this type of application .

Details of the application process are noted on the diagram below. N.B. During application the temperatures of both the substrate and the HYDROSEAL must not fall below 5oCel. Artificial or forced drying should also be avoided.

Floors
Floors may be treated in the same manner as walls provided that the surface is sound. HYDROSEALdoes not provide a vapour proof barrier and therefore if impermeable floor coverings, i.e. vinyl, carpet, etc. are to be laid it is suggested that a bitumen sandwich membrane, is considered. Where a vapour permeable floor covering is to be used a 50mm 3:1 sand/ cement screed should be laid over the HYDROSEAL membrane to prevent impact damage.

Replastering
Replastering is necessary to provide the HYDROSEAL system with protection from physical,i.e impact damage and to reduce the risk of condensation. Replastering should be carried out when the final HYDROSEAL coat has dried.

Decoration

On completion of the HYDROSEAL treatment, it is necessary to allow the system to dry out naturally. Decoration can commence after drying out using a finish compatible with the vapour permeability of the system, i.e. Beaver Trade Contract Emulsion.

Reinstatement
The reinstatement of fixtures and fittings should be carried out using contact adhesives in order to preserve the integrity and continuity of the HYDROSEAL system. For fixing skirting boards, door frames, electrical conduit etc. polyurethane sealant adhesives, 2- pack epoxy system and U.V. adhesive foams are suitable. These fixing should be made prior to the application of the gypsum finish plaster .

Heavy duty fixings should be identified prior to the application of the HYDROSEAL systems. Fixing points should be located and oversized drill holes prepared. These may then be filled with HYDROSEAL and a plastic raw plug inserted. For major fixing a half brick may be removed and the same procedure followed.

In exceptional circumstances heavy duty fixings may be made after completion of the HYDROSEAL systems by using chemical anchor systems by using chemical anchor systems i.e. epoxy mortars, 2-pack resin systems, etc. but this is not recommended.
